Desert boots vs chukka boots

A chukka boot is an ankle-height boot with open lacing and usually two or three pairs of eyelets. A desert boot is a type of chukka with a soft, often unlined suede upper and a rubber sole, and it takes its name from the suede boots worn by British officers in the North African desert during the Second World War. In short, every desert boot is a chukka boot, but chukka boots also come in smarter leather and nubuck versions with more structure.

Desert boots were designed for hot, dry conditions, which is why they are one of the few boots that work in summer. Suede is a soft, open-grained leather that lets air pass through more easily than polished leather, so heat and moisture can escape rather than build up inside the boot. Suede is best kept dry, so treat it with a suede protector before wearing and brush it regularly.

Most styles are held in our own UK warehouse and are dispatched the same day on orders placed before 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Standard UK delivery costs £3.99, free on orders over £60. Unworn boots can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and exchanges are free.
