G.H.Bass & Co. was founded in 1876 by George Henry Bass in Maine, New England, with the simple purpose of designing and producing the best shoes possible. The brand is especially famed for being the creators of the very first Penny Loafer and their line of 'Weejuns' are still some of the most popular shoes of that style today.
G.H.Bass started life at the tail end of the 19th Century when George Henry Bass, who was at the time employed as a leather tanner; recognised a gap in the outdoor and work footwear market. Creating a line of boots and shoes, made from sturdy materials Bass soon built up a reputation for making quality and durable footwear which the Brand still upholds to this day.
In 1936 the brand introduced its most famous style, the 'Weejun'. Based on a traditional Norwegian farming shoe, supposedly for "Loafing about in the field" the brand had produced the first penny loafer, a style that has been imitated and adapted by countless brands since. A Hit with students, to gracing the feet of the famous, the likes of Michael Jackson, JFK, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn have all worn the famed Bass style; cementing it's name into popular culture.
Forward to the present day G.H.Bass continue to make strides forward, creating new products that offer both style and durability to a new generation. The ever popular 'Weejuns' range continues to grow and you can shop a selection of styles right here at Shuperb.co.uk.
